Shepherd’s involvement in ministry work encompasses many forms of outreach. The members of Shepherd have a very wide variety of ministries (over 30 at last count) to choose from as they consider how best they can “serve the Lord with gladness.” Here are a few of the ministry opportunities available:
Childhood Ministry
This Ministry is organized to provide oversight and guidance to our Christian Day School, Pre School, and Child Care. This group meets monthly to establish direction and policy. They oversee the budget and staff of the Schools and Child Care as well as plan for the future needs for the students.
Education Ministry
This Ministry is charged with the responsibility of making sure sufficient and appropriate educational opportunities exist for all persons of the congregation, from young children to adults. We are a congregation based upon the Word of God and the teaching of it to all. The Sunday School, VBS and Confirmation are primary efforts of this Ministry.
Endowment Ministry
This Ministry is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the Endowment Funds. The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to receive gifts and bequests which are invested to produce income. The income from the investments (and only the income) is used to support ministry and missions of Shepherd of the Hills.
Family Ministry
This Ministry seeks to support the many families that make up the congregation. A special focus of this group is to ongoing support of marriages and parents.
Fellowship Ministry
This Ministry seeks to promote and plan varied activities, which help the Body of Christ in this place grow into oneness. The group is responsible for recreational activities, potluck suppers, new member receptions, the church picnic and other events. With them we accomplish this significant work among us.
Finance Committee
This Ministry is responsible to oversee the "inflow and outflow" of all moneys given to SOTH. They annually prepare the spending budget and meet regularly to oversee the finances and administration of the congregation. The church treasurer leads the Ministry. Serving as a “counter” to insure proper accounting of Sunday gifts is a meaningful way to serve in this ministry.
Human Resource Committee
This Committee meets regularly to establish and oversee the policies and procedures needed to support the professional and volunteer staff.
Prayer Ministry
This Ministry serves the needs of the congregation by organizing our prayer efforts. We pray for the families of the church regularly, for congregations and mission stations around the world and for various needs as they arise. Being an active part of the prayer chain involves you in the real ministry of God to His people - prayer. Be sure to take advantage of the back page of the bulletin each week to guide your own praying.
Property Ministry
This Ministry looks after the buildings, grounds and other related facilities of the congregation in terms of upkeep and maintenance as well as future physical needs. Many can provide help in this Ministry.
Sharing (Evangelism) Ministry
The Sharing Ministry works to encourage and equip members of the congregation to share the great news of free forgiveness through Jesus. Further, it works to develop programs through which members can carry out the Great Commission. Ministry members visit guests each week.
Stephen's Ministry
This Ministry reaches out to the members of the church and community with trained care. A Stephen Minister is ready to serve the Lord in whatever capacity called upon. He or she will work with folks in time of grief, trouble and uncertainty. A new training class begins every fall. Call the church office for further details.
Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry works to spiritually mature youth from the fourth grade through high school. Young people and adults are brought together in a variety of activities and events. You can always know what is happening in our Youth Ministry by reading the weekly bulletin. The youth themselves help in leading this ministry by serving on the Youth Board.
