School started today (August 18th) here at Shepherd of the Hills and what a joy it was to see the kids come in ready to learn about our Lord Jesus Christ. 132 students in grades Kindergarten through Eight were in the sanctuary this morning and watched a group of their peers demonstrate a game of "Follow the Leader" to illustrate how we as Christians follow our Savior by faith as we walk through the course of our lives.
Jesus says in John 10:1-5, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." Jesus leads His sheep from the front of the flock, not the back. The Good Shepherd calls for us to follow Him in faith, confident that He would never deliver us into harm.
"The Shepherd Leads" is the theme for the new school year at Shepherd. As God's chosen and dearly loved lambs and sheep, we follow the leader of our souls, Jesus Christ, as He delivers to us the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation.
